Lunar Wisdom: Remembering That Life Moves in Cycles

Every month, the moon disappears.

And every month, it returns.

For thousands of years, human beings lived beneath this rhythm with far greater awareness than most of us do today. Before electric light and digital calendars, the moon was not simply something beautiful in the night sky. It was a visible measure of time.

Its changing face reminded people of something we easily forget:

Life moves in cycles.

There is emergence.

Expansion.

Fullness.

Release.

Darkness.

And beginning again.

Modern life often teaches us to resist this rhythm.

We are encouraged to maintain consistent energy, productivity, motivation, and clarity regardless of what is happening internally.

But our inner lives rarely behave this way.

There are times when we feel expansive and outward-facing.

There are times when creativity surges.

There are times when we want community and connection.

And there are times when something within us begins pulling inward.

Lunar wisdom offers a symbolic framework for honoring these movements.

The new moon has traditionally been associated with darkness, beginnings, intention, and gestation.

The waxing moon suggests building, movement, and emergence.

The full moon represents illumination and culmination.

The waning moon evokes release, integration, and letting go.

We do not need to believe that the moon determines our emotional states to find meaning in this rhythm.

We can allow it to become a mirror.

A monthly invitation to ask:

What is beginning?

What is growing?

What has become visible?

What am I ready to release?

Perhaps the deeper wisdom of the moon is not prediction at all.

Perhaps it is permission.

Permission to change.

Permission to move through seasons.

Permission not to remain the same person every day.

The moon never apologizes for disappearing.

She does not resist darkness.

She does not cling to fullness.

She moves through every phase knowing that none of them is permanent.

There is something deeply reassuring in that.

We too are allowed to wax and wane.

To emerge and retreat.

To know and not know.

To become visible and then return inward.

The moon reminds us that wholeness does not mean remaining full.

Wholeness includes every phase.
